THE MERCHANT SHIPPING (PREVENTION OF COLLISION) REGULATIONS

1. Citation
These Regulations may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Prevention of Collision) Regulations, 2024.2. Interpretation
In these Regulations, unless the context otherwise requires─“Act” means the Merchant Shipping Act (Cap. 389);“Authority” has the meaning assigned to it under section 2 of the Act;“mile” means a nautical mile of 1,852 meters;“International Regulations” means the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea 1972;“high speed craft” means a craft capable of maximum speed equal to or exceeding—3. Objects of the Regulation
The objects of these Regulations are to give effect to section 203 of the Act by guiding on the safety of navigation and prevention of collision at sea.4. Application
These Regulations shall apply to—5. Preventing of Collision at Sea Rules
The provisions relating to regulation of collision shall be as provided in the Prevention of Collisions at Sea Rules set out in the Schedule.6. Distress signals

8. Offence and penalty
Any owner, operator, master and any other person who for the time being is responsible for the conduct of the vessel individually, who contravenes the requirements of regulations 4 and 5 commits an offence and is liable, upon conviction, to the penalty specified in section 204 of the Act.SCHEDULE (r. 5, 6(1))
