Kenya Law is pleased to announce that we will be moving to a newly upgraded website designed to deliver faster access and superior user experience. This transition aims to address the bottlenecks experienced on our current site, particularly during high-traffic times, ensuring that our clients can access public legal information without delays.

We are moving to the new website in stages over the coming months, starting with our Case Law Database, Laws of Kenya Database, and our Gazette database. New functionality will be added to the website on an ongoing basis.

Key features of the New Kenya Law website

1. Case Law Database

Each case includes detailed metadata, breaking down parties, judges, MNC, Advocates, citations, and linked statutes for efficient legal research. Key features include;

  • Advanced Search: Our powerful search engine helps you pinpoint exact cases.
  • Case Citator: Instantly view case citations and subsequent treatments.
  • Case History: Track case history from the High Court to the Supreme Court.
  • Deep Integration: Seamlessly connect case law with our legislation database.
  • Medium Neutral Citation (MNC): The new Case Law Database now adheres to international reporting standards, ensuring each case is uniquely identifiable. This enhancement guarantees precise search results, enabling users to locate cases with unmatched accuracy. This implies that eKLR citations will no longer be utilized, as all cases in the database now possess a Medium Neutral Citation.

2. Laws of Kenya Database

Enhanced user experience:

The updated platform introduces features designed to significantly enhance user experience. New filters, such as sorting by the year of publication, alphabetical order, and document nature, streamline navigation and make it easier to find relevant information quickly.

Advanced search functionality

The new search functionality delivers results quickly and relevantly. The search box allows users to find specific content by entering keywords, eliminating the need to navigate the entire website or explore the comprehensive database of the Laws of Kenya. The improved search functionality, including advanced search options and filters, enhances user experience and navigation, making it easier for users to locate information within the extensive data available.

Clear display of Legislation:

To enhance navigation for all users, the laws have been categorized into various sections, facilitating quicker access to information. The status of each law is clearly indicated, highlighting any repeals, revocations, or uncommenced legislation.

3. Kenya Gazette

Improved access and usability

The Kenya Gazette section has been significantly upgraded with new functionalities, including advanced search filters and improved categorization. These enhancements make it easier to find relevant notices quickly and efficiently.

We have implemented several usability improvements, including a cleaner user interface, enhanced navigation tools, and faster loading times. These changes make the Kenya Gazette section more accessible, especially for mobile users. Our focus on inclusive design ensures that all users, regardless of their device or abilities, can access the information they need with ease.

Categorized and organized Gazette notices chronologically

Gazette Notices are now organized chronologically, allowing for quicker retrieval of specific notices and ensuring that users can easily track the progression of legal and administrative announcements over time.

 4.  System Improvements

  1. Scalability - The new revamped website will better handle high traffic access thereby reducing any website downtimes currently being experienced.
  2. Improved Search Functionality - An enhanced global search index with filters based on the content types (judicial decisions, Kenya Gazettes, Legislation, document year)
  3. Improved User Experience - The new revamped website is better designed to adapt to various devices. Users accessing the website using devices with smaller screens will have a better user experience since the website display will adapt to the screen size of the devices for better display of the website content.
  4. Ability to integrate with other websites/information sources through the use of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
  5. Enhanced document versioning especially for legislation (improved point-in-time functionality for statutes).
  6. Integration with the “function-rich” Kenya Law Case Law and Kenya Legislation Databases backend systems currently used for editing and publishing of Judicial Decisions and Legislation.

This upgrade reflects our commitment to ensuring that public legal information is accessible to all.
