The denomination, inscriptions, forms, material and characteristics of the new five cents, ten cents, fifty cents, one shilling, five shillings, ten shillings and twenty shillings coins to be issued by the Central Bank of Kenya shall be as follows:—
1.Design featuresThe coins shall incorporate the following inscriptions:
(a)On the obverse side—A portrait with inscriptions "THE FIRST PRESIDENT OF KENYA, MZEE JOMO KENYATTA"
(b)On the reverse side—The Kenya Coat of Arms with inscriptions "REPUBLIC OF KENYA" and amount both in words and numerals plus the year.
2.Metal content
Five CentsThe metal alloy shall be nickel-plated steel.
 Other features:
 DiameterWeightEdgeEdge thickness17.90 mm.2.50 gm.plain.1.70 mm.
Ten CentsThe metal alloy shall be nickel-plated steel.
 Other features:
 DiameterWeightEdgeEdge thickness19.90 mm.3.50 gms.plain.1.80 mm.
Fifty CentsThe metal alloy shall be nickel-plated steel.
 Other features:
 DiameterWeightEdgeEdge thickness21.90 mm.4.50 gms.milled1.90 mm.
One ShillingThe metal alloy shall be nickel-plated steel.
 Other features:
 DiameterWeightEdgeEdge thickness23.90 mm.5.50 gms.alternate plain/milled.1.90 mm.
Five ShillingBimetal—the metal alloy shall be aluminium bronze in the inner ring and cupro-nickel at the outer ring.
 Other features:
 DiameterWeightEdgeEdge thickness19.50 mm.3.75 gms.milled.1.85 mm.
Ten ShillingBimetal—the metal alloy shall be cupro-nickel in the inner ring and aluminium bronze at the outer ring.
 Other features:
 DiameterWeightEdgeEdge thickness23.00 mm.5.00 gms.milled.1.75 mm.
TwentyShillingBimetal-the metal alloy shall be aluminium bronze in the inner ring and cupro-nickel at the outer ring.
 Other features:
 DiameterWeightEdgeEdge thickness26.00mm.9.00 gms.alternate plain/milled.2.40 mm.
The new coins will be in circulation alongside the present issues of Kenya currency notes and coins with effect from 18th April, 2005.
