The denomination, inscription, material and characteristic of the new fifty shillings, five hundred shillings, and one thousand shillings currency notes to be issued by the Central Bank of Kenya shall be as follows:—
1.FIFTY SHILLINGS:
(a)DenominationThe denomination of the note shall be shillings fifty inscribed both in words and in figures, the latter to be inscribed on the face and the back at the corners.
(b)Basic ColoursFront and back:The main colour is dark brown with light blue/purple in the background.The main colour is light brown with light green in the background.
(c)Size—138 mm. x 72 mm.
(d)Main features
(i)Front:The main features shall be the portrait of His Excellency Mzee Jomo Kenyatta the first President of Kenya; and the Kenya Coat of Arms. The title of the Bank in both Kiswahili and English shall be at the top right hand side. One set of numbers shall be in a vertical line next to the watermark and the other set shall be horizontal at the bottom right hand side. The Kiswahili inscription shall be to the right of the portrait, and a conspicuous head of a lion below the watermark.
(ii)Back:The main features shall be a caravan of camels and the tusks at the entrance of Kilindini Harbour.
(iii)Other features:The note incorporates a watermark of a lion's head and a clear text intermittent thread.
(iv)New members' signatures:This will be of Governor A. K. Mullei while member of the Board will be Joseph Magari.
(v)New date:1st April, 2003.
2.FIVE HUNDRED SHILLINGS:
(a)DenominationThe denomination of the note shall be shillings five hundred inscribed both in words and in figures; the latter to be inscribed on the face and the back at the four corners.
(b)Basic ColoursFront and back:The main colour is black with red and green in the background.
(c)Size-147 mm. x 78 mm.
(d)Main features
(i)Front:The main features shall be the portrait of the first President of Kenya Mzee Jomo Kenyatta; and the Kenya Coat of Arms. The title of the Bank in both Kiswahili and English shall he at the top right hand side. One set of red novel numbers shall be in a vertical line next to the watermark and the other set in black novel numbers shall be horizontal at the bottom right hand side. The Kiswahili inscription shall be to the right of the portrait and a conspicuous head of a lion below the watermark.
(ii)Back:The main features shall be the House of Parliament and the Parliamentary mace.
(iii)Other features:The note incorporates a watermark of a lion's head and a security thread. The security thread shows a pronounced shift in colour between magenta and green when moved in reflected light and can be easily recognized by the public.
(iv)New members' signatures:This will be of Governor A. K. Mullei while member of the Board will be Joseph Magari.
(v)New date:1st April, 2003.
3.ONE THOUSAND SHILLINGS:
(a)DenominationThe denomination of the note shall be shillings one thousand inscribed both in words and in figures, the latter to be inscribed on the face and the back at the four corners.
(b)Basic ColoursFront and back:The main colour is brown with mauve and green in the background.
(c)Size-150 mm. x 80 mm.
(d)Main features
(i)Front:The main features shall be the portrait of the first President of Kenya Mzee Jomo Kenyatta; and the Kenya Coat of Arms.The title of the Bank in both Kiswahili and English shall be at the top right hand side. One set of red novel numbers shall be in a vertical line next to the watermark and the other set in black novel numbers shall be horizontal at the bottom right hand side. The Kiswahili inscription shall be to the right of the portrait and a conspicuous head of a lion below the watermark.
(ii)Back:The main features shall be a wildlife scene with elephants in the background.
(iii)Other features:The note incorporates a watermark of a lion's head and a security thread. The security thread shows a pronounced shift in colour between magenta and green when moved in reflected light and can be easily recognized by the public.
(iv)New members' signatures:This will be of Governor A. K. Mullei while member of the Board will be Joseph Magari.
(v)New date:1st April, 2003.
