The denomination, inscription, form, material and characteristics of new fifty cents, one shilling and five shillings coins to be issued by the Central Bank of Kenya shall be as follows—
1.DENOMINATIONS:The denominations of the new coins shall be fifty cents, one shilling and five shillings respectively.
2.DESIGN FEATURES:The coins shall incorporate the following inscriptions—
(i)on the obverse sidethe portrait of His Excellency, President Daniel Toroitich arap Moi and the inscription PRESIDENT DANIEL TOROMCH ARAP MOI;
(ii)on the reverse sidethe Kenya Coat of Arms and the inscriptions: REPUBLIC OF KENYA, 1995; and the value in both words and numericals.
3.METAL CONTENTS:Fifty CentsThe metal alloy shall be brass plated on a mild steel core.One ShillingThe metal alloy shall be brass plated on a mild steel core.Five ShillingsThe metal alloy shall be aluminium bronze in the inner ring, and cupro nickel at the outer ring.
4.OTHER FEATURES:Fifty CentsShape: Round.Weight: 3.25 gm.Diameter: 18 mm.Edge: Plain.One ShillingShape: Round.Weight: 4.4 gm.Diameter: 22 mm.Edge: Alternate plain/milled.Five ShillingsShape: Round.Weight: 3.75 gm.Diameter: 19.5 mm.Edge: Milled.The new coins will circulate alongside the present issues of Kenya currency notes and coins with effect from 28th August, 1995.
