THE CENTRAL BANK OF KENYA ACT- DETERMINATION, 1994

The denomination, inscription, material and characteristics of new coins of 10 cent, 50 cent, Sh. 1 and Sh. 5 to be issued by the Central Bank of Kenya and notifies that the denomination, inscription, material and characteristics of the new coins shall be as follows:—
1.Design features:The coins shall incorporate the following inscription—
(i)the obverse side shall bear the inscription: President of Republic Kenya, Daniel Toroitich arap Moi.
(ii)the reverse side shall bear the Coat of Arms and the inscription: Republic of Kenya, year, value in both words and figures.
2.Metal content:10 cent: brass plated steel; 5.8 per cent coating of brass on steel.50 cent: nickel plated steel; 7.05 per cent coating of nickel on steel.1 Shilling: nickel plated steel; 6.40 per cent coating of nickel on steel.5 Shilling: nickel plated steel; 6.20 per cent of nickel
3.Date:The coins shall be dated 1994.
4.Other Features: The shape, weight, diameter, size and edges shall be as those of existing coins.The new coins will circulate along side the present issues of Kenya currency notes and coins with effect from the 13th May, 1994.
