THE PUBLIC (NOTIFICATION ON PROHIBITION, POSSESSION OF ARMS AND SURRENDER OF SUCH ARMS) (TURKANA, ELGEYO MARAKWET, BARINGO, WEST POKOT, SAMBURU AND LAIKIPIA COUNTIES) EXTENSION ORDER, NO. 4 OF 2023

IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by section 106(2)(a) of the National Police Service Act (Cap. 84) and in view of the serious threat posed to National security public order and safety arising from the disturbances occurring in Turkana, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo, West Pokot, Samburu and Laikipia Counties, the Inspector-General, National Police Service makes the following Extension Order—

1. Citation

This Order may be cited as the Public (Notification on Prohibition, Possession of Arms and Surrender of such Arms) (Turkana, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo, West Pokot, Samburu and Laikipia Counties) Extension Order, 2023.

2. Application

This Extension Order shall apply in the following specified areas in Turkana, Elgeyo Marakwet, Baringo, West Pokot, Samburu and Laikipia Counties:
(a)TURKANA COUNTY – Turkana South, Turkana East and Loima Sub-counties.
(b)WEST POKOT COUNTY – Pokot North and Sigor Sub-counties (along the River Turkwel Escarpment).
(c)ELGEYO MARAKWET COUNTY – Marakwet East and Marakwet West Sub-counties.
(d)BARINGO COUNTY – Mukutani, Muchongoi, Bartabwa, Tiaty East and Tiaty West Sub-counties.
(e)LAIKIPIA COUNTY – Olmoran, Ng’arua, Mukogodo and Sipili Divisions.
(f)SAMBURU COUNTY – Loroki, Baragoi, Wamba (except Wamba Town) and Malaso Divisions (except Suguta Marmar Town).

3. Declaration Period

This Order shall apply with effect from 18th May, 2023 and remain in effect for a period of thirty (30) days.

4. Restriction

Under this Extension Order, there shall be no public gatherings, processions or movement, either alone or as a group during the period of the Extended Notification except as has been permitted in writing by the Inspector-General of the National Police Service.
